Flickr Map GeoCoding Bookmarklet

Published on Tuesday, 13. June 2006, 19:30.
About: flickr, google, maps, geocoding, bookmarklet

I just spend some time to create a slim bookmarklet that enables mapping, geocoding and (of course) geotagging directly in your Flickr photo page. It works with all common browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera) without the need for any extension.

To run it, simply drag it to your tool bar, visit one of your photo pages, hit it again and your done. No sluggishly page refresh, just simple AJAX style behind the curtain ;)

UPDATE
- Switch to fullscreen version (NEW)
- Smooth zoom when map was double clicked (NEW)
- Link to map added in description (NEW)
- Batch tagging: Remember last saved location (NEW)
- See where someone else's photo has been taken
- GeoCoder adjusted (try search for "nyc", "10101")
- Long/Lat input possible (eg. "N 40°45', W 73°59'")
- Easy EXIF geo data extraction (if you've used GPS-devices)

Localize Bookmarklet

ps: I developed it using dynamic scripts. So all future improvements will be available without any worry. If you miss something, drop it in the comments and I'm gonna care about...

It looks nice, I can drag it, but how do I get it into the bookmarks? Its either one or the other. There is preview of ajeva box that fades away.
Sorry.

Depends on the browser you are using. In Firefox, Safari and Opery you can easily drag it to your bookmarks folder. In IE you should right click and choose "Add this link to my favourites".

I was able to get the bookmarklet to work in Firefox, but it doesn't work in Internet Explorer. Any hints?

Sometimes, you run across just the thing you are looking for. It's rare, but it happens. Your geotagging bookmarklet is just what I was looking for. Thanks.

By the way, it works great in Flock, too. (I know it's essentially Firefox, but you can put it on your list.)

There is also a really nice discussion about it going on at the Flickr GeoTagging Group. Watch it and drop me your comments!

Well, aside from cameras with GPS and software to map pics while downloading them to the computer, this is it!

...also a great Ajax example... I'm going to use it in a little web2.0 speech I'll give to my collegues

The bookmarklet is very kewl, it works like a charm. I have started tagging some of my Flickr photos and they show up on loc.alize.us if I search for myself.

I posted about it.
